Protecting Your Time on the Water
Martin County is a boater's county. Between the St. Lucie River, the Indian River Lagoon, the inlet and the reef, a vessel here sees more water in a year than most boats see in five. HBK Insurance Group covers everything from center consoles and flats boats to cruising yachts, personal watercraft and commercial marine operations, and we write the navigational limits around where you actually run.
What Boat & Marine Insurance Covers
- ✓ Hull and machinery coverage
- ✓ Agreed value policies
- ✓ Watercraft liability and fuel spill
- ✓ Personal watercraft (PWC)
- ✓ Uninsured boater coverage
- ✓ Towing, salvage and wreck removal
Agreed Value Versus Actual Cash Value
An actual cash value policy pays what the boat is worth the day it sinks, depreciation included. An agreed value policy pays the number written on the policy. On a vessel you have invested in, that difference is the whole point of carrying the coverage, and it is the first thing we review on a declarations page.
Named Storm and Haul-Out Coverage
Most marine policies carry a separate hurricane deductible and specific requirements about hauling out or securing the vessel when a storm is named. Those requirements are conditions, not suggestions — a claim can be denied over them. We walk through your storm plan when the policy is written, not after a watch is posted.
Common Questions
Does my homeowners policy cover my boat?
Only in a very limited way, typically small boats with low horsepower, and usually with little or no liability. Anything you would take through the inlet needs its own policy.
What navigational limits should I ask for?
It depends where you run. Inland and coastal cruising, offshore fishing and a Bahamas crossing are three different sets of limits, and running outside them can void coverage.
Is my trailer covered?
Sometimes under the marine policy, sometimes under auto. We confirm which so the trailer is not the one uninsured item in the setup.
